From Beirut to Geneva
We ended the school year last June with
a trip to Geneva to attend a reception
and dinner hosted by Board Member,
John McCarthy and sponsored by Audi
Bank in Switzerland. We were honored
to speak in front of the gathered alumni
about their alma mater and its promising
future!
The highlight of the event was the
launching of the Switzerland chapter of
the IC Alumni.
Ayman Abu Chakra ’83
was spontaneously and unanimously
elected as the new leader of the Swiss
chapter. And several alumni volunteered
to become committee members. Judging
by the large number of alumni and IC
friends who attended the reception, this
chapter promises to be very active!
To Los Angeles
We visited IC alumni,
Dr Ray Irani ‘50
,
on November 9th at his headquarters in
Occidental Petroleum. We talked about
the progress on the master plan and the
capital campaign. We later attended a
dinner hosted by
Mohamed ’80 and
Hania Ahmar ‘92
and caught up with
the news of the IC alumni and friends in
California!
To Greece
We arrived in Athens on Monday
November 19th and paid a visit to
Mr
Said Khoury ‘40
at his office
in the CCC. We talked at length
and he talked about his years at IC
and the sense of solidarity among
the students at that time in spite of
their political differences.
The next evening, his son and
daughter-in-law, Samer and Rania
Khoury, hosted a very nice dinner
attended by about 60 alumni and friends
at the Narghilah - a Lebanese restaurant.
It was a charming evening and a chance
to meet IC alumni and friends. We each
gave a speech about IC and its future
aplans. There seems to be a large com-
munity of IC graduates in Greece and a
decision was taken to start an IC chapter
in Athens. We look forward to attending
their events next year!
