To moodle (v.);
process of enjoyable tinker-
ing that often leads to growing knowledge,
insight and creativity. It applies both to the
way Moodle was developed, and to the way
we may use it to teach and learn.
Are you moodling? If not, you soon will
be. Moodle has hit IC this year, linking
departments, faculty, staff and students
like never before. Wikis and blogs are
passé.This new world of education stores
all documents, eases communication,
highlights collaboration, facilitates evalu-
ation – all with the touch of a few buttons
while guaranteeing teacher – student
privacy if desired.
Basically, Moodle - Modular Object Ori-
ented Dynamic Learning Environment
- is a high end learning management
software system which produces Internet-
based courses and websites.
“Teachers use Moodle to offer online
quizzes, discussion forums, question-
naires, links to webpages, calendar events,
and even give online classes in case of
school closures”, explained Mahmud
Shihab, the newly appointed head of the
Educational Resource Center depart-
ment. “Think of it as an extension to the
face-to-face classroom.”
Originally designed for universities, it
is quickly attracting schools worldwide.
IC being IC and as a member of NESA
(Near East South Asia Council of Over-
seas Schools), it was quick to acquire the
system for the school.
After successfully experimenting with
Moodle last year in a few select classes,
the system is now mandatory at all levels.
Indeed, from IC’s youngest preschooler
to its eldest secondary school student
everyone has been assigned a Moodle ID
and password.
Students haven’t blinked an eye. For this
generation’s tech savvy students – it’s just
another software.
Their parents may need a little more time
to adjust. It’s yet another system they have
