T
wo board members of IC are
offering two scholarships to IC
students that get accepted to
prestigious universities in the US.
Mr. William Turner, the Chairman of
the IC Board, is offering a scholarship to a
student who gets accepted to Trinity Col-
lege, a top ranked liberal arts college (U.S.
News & World Report 2007).
“Mr. Bill Turner, a graduate of Trinity
and also a board member of Trinity, is of-
fering $25,000 a year for the four years,”
said John Johnson, the IC president.
Mr. Turner’s goal is for two IC students
to be able attend Trinity College and only
pay the equivalent fees of a local Lebanese
university.
“He’s been working with the univer-
sity in developing other scholarship of-
fers,” continued Mr. Johnson, who is also
searching for other sponsors.
The other board member, who wishes
to remain anonymous, is offering tuition
and board for the full four years of the
Bachelors Degree to an Ivy League or an
equivalent university.
If more than one student is eligible for
this scholarship, either one will be chosen
based on financial need or financial aid
from other sponsors may be offered.
IC is hoping to increase financial aid to
allow more students to benefit from these
scholarships.
“I’m really pleased by the offers the
board members have made and if we
have more students interested in study-
ing abroad, I’m personally very happy to
try and raise money for them,” said Mr.
Johnson, who plans to work with the de-
velopment office at IC to find more finan-
cial support.
This opportunity will help some stu-
dents achieve their dream.
“Not all students want to go abroad,
most want to go to AUB,” said Mr John-
son, “and AUB is a fine university and
cost is quite reasonable compared to US
colleges, but if there are students who
would prefer to go to the US, I think its
incumbent of IC to try and help them as
much as we can.”
Many students responded positively
upon hearing this news.
“I believe this is an excellent opportu-
nity and provides us with more options
and motivates us to achieve our poten-
tial,” remarked Yara Barqawi, 5E.

The IC office in New York has
undergone a facelift, thanks to the
efforts of Mrs. Mary Johnson. From
a drab, almost bare set of rooms, the
New York Office is now decorated
in an oriental style which is both
functional and attractive.
