This is why our
Teacher Exchange
Program is such a
successful vehicle
for learning. The
teacher exchange program is the brainchild of Dr.
Charles and this unique program, administered by
the Educational Resources Center and coordinated
by ERC staff member Marianne Maasri, is in its
fourth successful year of exchange visits between IC
and international schools around the world. This
year, we had a record number of sixteen IC adminis-
trators and staff visiting international schools and we
received a record of twelve teachers from various
international schools. This year, IC teachers returned
to schools in the United States, England,
Switzerland, and Oman, and also visited schools in
Turkey, Greece, and even Bangladesh. Everyone,
whether IC teachers who were going out to visit or
teachers who were visiting us from international
schools, expressed the idea that the opportunity to
visit another international school was an enriching
experience both personally and educationally.

On the invitation of UNICEF, the Educational
Resources Center is conducting a study of the
training needs of a number of Lebanese public
schools that are most in-need of assistance. The
study is part of UNICEF’s “Adopt a School” project
which is aimed at improving the physical facilities
and educational conditions of those schools which
are mainly located in the Baalbeck-Hermel area
with others in Tripoli and Kisirwan. ERC director
Dr. Raouf Ghusayni explained that the IC study
has included a survey of all administrators and
teachers of the schools and field visits to the
schools by teams of IC administrators and teachers.
In February, students and parents from all over the
college responded generously to a call for assis-
tance for these needy schools. We were able to
pack and send a total of 64 boxes full of books,
copybooks, writing materials and teaching aids to
these schools. “The openhanded response serves
as a role model to our children and is a clear
demonstration of how parents help us teach our
students to become compassionate young men and
women who will serve as role models for their
