As part of the Educational Resources Center’s
Outreach Program this academic year, 68 IC teachers
and administrators offered their knowledge and
expertise to present 131 workshops in Arabic, English,
and French, covering a wide variety of topics ranging
from administrative issues to relevant topics as well as
teaching and assessment methods in all the subject
areas, including art, music and PE. During the 2005-
2006 academic year, the ERC organized six Outreach
sessions, taking professional development to various
regions of Lebanon, the South, the Beka’a , Aley and
Beirut, reaching out to teachers and administrators
from over 600 public and private schools. Our effort
to take our workshops to a remote corner of the South
was well appreciated; some schools had even suspended classes for the day so that their teachers could attend. The large
turnout of eager participants, almost 2,500 in all this year, indicates the teachers’ interest in the wide variety of topics
offered. A notable milestone for our workshop program is the three teachers who traveled from ICARDA International
School of Aleppo in Syria to attend the session at Ras Beirut. Participants expressed their pleasure in the opportunity to
exchange ideas as well as gain information and skills that will improve their teaching and themselves professionally – a
major goal of this program.
Another set of workshops, running parallel to the ERC’s Outreach program, is the Early Childhood and Lower Elementary
Workshop Program, organized in collaboration with the IC’s Pre-Schools. The program provides workshops for Pre-
school and lower Elementary teachers from Lebanon’s public and private schools. Workshops offered aimed at improving
teachers’ skills and knowledge in the areas of theory, hands-on-teaching, lesson planning and assessment in Arabic,
English and French. and seeks to help promote the skills of early childhood education for teachers in Beirut and other
parts of Lebanon. The program, extended to include grade I, II, and III teachers, was presented by 20 Preschool and
Elementary faculty and administrators from Ras Beirut and Ain Aar and attracted 468 participants from all over Lebanon.
