Alton Reynolds Basketball Tournament
The Annual Alton Reynolds Basketball Tournament was
held from 9 to 11, March 2006. The tournament involved
seven schools, including the host teams from the
International College (IC) and the Bahrain Ibn Khuldoon
National School, with a total of 22 teams playing on three
courts on the IC and American Community School (ACS)
campus grounds.
There were 49 games played over the three-day period.
With four different divisions competing, JV Girls, JV Boys,
Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys, the tournament had a great
number of exciting moments to delight the many fans who
attended. As always, the most exciting games proved to be
the finals.
In the Junior Varsity Girls’ final, mirroring last year’s final
standings, International College (IC) was again pitted against
Notre Dame de Jamhour (NDJ). At different points during
the game, both teams held and then lost the lead. And
though our IC team finished second to NDJ last year, this
year our girls won the final match in a decisive manner and
finished in first place. Bravo!
Equally exciting was the final in the Junior Varsity Boys’
division. Again, in a situation like last year, it was clear
throughout the preliminary rounds that IC and NDJ would
meet in the final. Though NDJ and IC went back and forth,
battling both offensively and defensively, in the end IC had
to settle for 2nd place. Many fans considered the game one
of the most exciting of the tournament.
As for Varsity teams, our girls were able to place 3rd in
what was a very competitive pool. It must be noted that on
the same day our Varsity Girls travelled to play the Beirut
Championship final where they defeated College Protestant
Français (CPF), easily gaining the number one rank in Beirut
in the Lebanese Championships. What an accomplishment!
Finally, our Varsity Boys defeated Lebanon Evangelical
School (LES) in a game that also boasted many moments of
excitement. What is most impressive about our Varsity
Boys, and also our JV Girls, was that they went undefeated
in the entire tournament, making them the undisputed
champions.
Special congratulations must go out to all our players and
especially to our coaches: Samir Assaf (JV Girls), Mazen
Fathalla (JV Boys), Reem Assaf (Varsity Girls), and Tarek
Mousally (Varsity Boys).
